Which countries make up the UK?

England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Which countries make up Great Britain?

England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is in the UK but not in Great Britain.

Is Ireland part of the UK?

No. Only Northern Ireland is part of the UK. The Republic of Ireland is a separate, independent country.

What are the Crown Dependencies?

The Channel Islands (Jersey and Guernsey) and the Isle of Man. They have their own governments and are not part of the UK.

What are the capital cities?

London (UK and England), Edinburgh (Scotland), Cardiff (Wales), Belfast (Northern Ireland).

What currency does the UK use?

The pound sterling (£). Scotland and Northern Ireland print their own banknotes, which are valid everywhere in the UK.

Name some British overseas territories.

The Falkland Islands, Gibraltar and St Helena, among others.

Which three crosses make up the Union Flag?

St George (red cross on white, England), St Andrew (diagonal white cross on blue, Scotland) and St Patrick (diagonal red cross on white, Ireland). Wales is not on it, because Wales was already united with England. Wales has its own flag, the red dragon. The flag took its current form in 1801.
